ECONOMIC REALITY
Austin I. Weber
January 9, 2006
Globalization and outsourcing are unrecognized ‘cancers’ which are slowly converting our working class and eventually our middle class into ‘coolies.’ To date, no ‘cure’ is on the horizon. In fact, the self-serving politicians and commercial and industrial executives constantly ‘feed the cancers.’
We all know that taxes pay the bills, and when money is borrowed, it has to be paid back – and with INTEREST. It is quite evident that seldom does anyone get anything for free – not even the U.S. government.
President George Bush has said that a tax cut will stimulate the economy and provide more jobs. What he should have said is that a tax cut will ‘stimulate’ the wealthy and make them richer. Unfortunately, we have exported millions of high-paying jobs abroad resulting in much lower-paying jobs here at home. We have also exported our technology and our markets, created a huge war debt, a monstrous national deficit and a tremendous trade deficit.
Instead of finding an answer to their problems through globalization and outsourcing, industry and commerce now realize they have destroyed the world’s greatest market. They have lost the poor, the middle and working class upon which the American market depends so heavily, for they are rapidly being reduced to the status of ‘coolies.’ How will our great economists who have championed this disastrous administration justify their reasoning?
Many companies have moved their official address to Bermuda and other island countries in order to reduce or avoid their tax obligations. Numerous commercial ships of every type owned by U.S. interests fly a foreign flag for the same purpose. There are many tax shelters doled out to companies to benefit the greedy and satiate the ‘humble’ politicians with large donations.
With the constant and ever-growing erosion of our tax base where is the money going to come from to run our country? In this great democracy of ours, can’t we do any better than continually see greed, ignorance and stupidity reign supreme? Instead of reducing taxes as our Republican Congress has already done, taxes will have to be raised and those who can most afford it must pay dearly.
Our great industrial nation came about with the Industrial Revolution and now we are being reduced to the status of a ‘third world’ country. Answers must be found soon to the problems of globalization and outsourcing for there is little time left. What will it take
to make our government truly one “of the people, by the people and for the people?” George Bush seems to be moving in the reverse direction which could lead to a depression from which it will be very difficult to recover.
When will our government and our President wake up? When will we wake up?
