Revival of the Great Depression
Austin I. Weber
June 21, 2007
Oh what a tangled web we weave
when first we practice to deceive.
--William Congreve
I have been a Roosevelt Democrat and a liberal
since 1932, and have supported their causes financially
and physically to the best of my ability. It
is very sad to say that I and many millions like me
find it difficult to now see any great difference between
the Democrats and the Republicans.
None of the candidates are concerned with the people
who elect them. Their political game is
to get elected and re-elected. This takes a lot
of money these days, so you can be sure that the big
donors “call the shots.”
The United States is no longer the world leader except
in its lack of imagination, inventiveness,
foresight, diplomacy, intelligence and industry. Now
our motivating concern is Greed – nothing else
matters.
For many years now our government has been (and definitely
should have been) fully aware that fossil fuels are
a finite resource. Furthermore, scientists are
very serious in warning us that burning these fuels
puts carbon dioxide into our atmosphere which contributes
greatly to global warming. A government, whose
function is to protect its people, should intelligently
determine that a non-polluting energy source would
have to be developed – and quickly. Cost
could not be a factor and it would have to be a government-sponsored
project because of its importance and size.
The intelligent and knowledgeable world scientists
are in 100% agreement that chances of preventing total
global destruction grow slimmer every day. The ”Bush
Society” scientists want another study.
Where “Global Roasting” could be years
away, the Super Great Depression has already started. Here
are some of the obvious indicators:
- Foreclosures;
- Homes are being devalued;
- The future status of the poor, the working class
and the middle class is very worrisome;
- By expanding, through Globalization and outsourcing
our industry, technology and jobs we have little
chance of recovery;
- Towns and cities have gone bankrupt and many will
continue the trend;
- Schools across the country have eliminated many
departments such as music, art, gym and sports;
- Newspapers are fighting hard to survive;
- Our trade deficit and national debt are out of
control; and
- State lotteries are having trouble selling their
tickets.
The “Great Bush Society” will be in trouble
along with the rest of the world. Where were
the Democrats, Republicans, and economists when all
this was happening? Well, everyone knows now—they
were happily giving tax cuts and promoting Globalization
and Outsourcing. |
