Neglect of Duty

Austin I. Weber
August 20, 2004

President George W. Bush should take some of the blame for the death, destruction and misery from hurricane Charley. Had he heeded what many credible and world-renowned scientists have been telling the world for over fifteen years about Global Warming, he would have been fully aware of the predicted climatic changes and the dire consequences that could result. Instead, he kowtowed to big industry and money ‘interests’ allowing them to continue polluting the atmosphere without any restraints or punishments.

Undoubtedly, we can expect more severe hurricanes, heavy rainfall and flooding in some areas, while other areas could suffer extended periods of drought. In fact, this is already happening and it should not come as a surprise to our self-serving politicians and ‘leaders’. Under no circumstances should they be “let off the hook” by giving us the excuse that they were unaware of the devastating outcomes. It is their responsibility to be fully informed and do everything necessary to protect the people, and not their own selfish interests and/or their sources of campaign funds.

Our President has betrayed our trust and has taken the opposite direction and position by easing pollution restrictions and negating international environmental agreements!

It is no longer an option—it is mandatory that we develop alternative sources of energy that do not pollute our atmosphere with carbon dioxide and other gases. We must stop burning fossil fuel—or any kind of combustible fuel – in cars, trucks, airplanes, furnaces, power plants, etc. We have already waited too long!
