Questioning Religion
By Austin I. Weber
June 12, 2007
Religion has become the largest business in the world. It
receives money from annual dues, collection plates,
tithing, church-owned property and businesses, government
subsidies, donations and some concealed sources. It
has the greatest number of ‘customers’,
many from cradle to grave, of any business. It
also has a monstrous number of ‘sales people’ (most
of them unpaid) promoting its virtues.
All religions use the same ‘great’ promotional
gimmick ever invented known as ‘Have Faith’. This
tends to retain a large clientèle and obtain
new “customers.”
What is this ‘wonderful mystique’, ‘Have
Faith,’ that promotes “devotion”? Simply,
it is
believing, without question, a person who says he or
she knows all about religion and God and, at times,
even speaks directly to him. It is astounding
how these people know what God thinks, what he wants
us to do or not do, how billions of prayers will cure
illness, make us rich, make us a better person, win
wars against people praying to the same God, and on
and on.
The world is not a kind place. Humans struggle
for an existence. Religion promises (without
proof) a wonderful future after death – so what
do you have to lose? |
